Orioles Place RHP Bierd on DL

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The Baltimore Orioles on Friday placed pitcher Randor Bierd on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 30.

The righthanded reliever, 0-1 with a 2.03 ERA in nine games this season, is suffering from a shoulder impingement in his pitching arm.

In a corresponding move, the club purchased the contract of pitcher Lance Cormier from Class AAA Norfolk of the International League.

Cormier, 27, is 1-1 with a 0.96 ERA in nine appearances with Norfolk this season. The righthander is 14-18 with a 5.98 ERA in 123 major league games over parts of four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Atlanta Braves.

The Orioles also announced that infielder Freddie Bynum will begin a rehab assignment Friday at Class AA Bowie of the Eastern League.

Bynum underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee in March.
