Seven-Run Sixth Carries O's Past Yanks

BALTIMORE -- The Orioles got contributions from everyone in their batting order on Friday night, batting around for the first time this season and using a seven-run rally for an 8-2 win over the Yankees. Eight of Baltimore's nine starters logged at least one hit, and the Orioles collected seven singles in their game-breaking sixth-inning rally.

Baltimore started the sixth inning with a pair of singles, and left fielder Luke Scott pushed them ahead for good with a run-scoring hit off New York starter Phil Hughes. Center fielder Adam Jones delivered an RBI hit of his own, then pinch-hitter Jay Payton and third baseman Melvin Mora both drilled two-run singles off the road team's bullpen.

Starter Daniel Cabrera was good enough to get the win for the Orioles, but he came out shortly after the go-ahead rally. Cabrera (1-0) allowed just four hits in the first five innings, stranding two runners on base in the fifth inning and three in the sixth. The right-hander gave up a solo home run to catcher Chad Moeller in the seventh but left with Baltimore (10-7) ahead by six runs.

New York (9-9) didn't get its first hit until the fourth inning and wasted a chance to score its first run. Right fielder Bobby Abreu singled to right field with one out and tried to come around to score on a hit by Hideki Matsui but was thrown out at home plate by Nick Markakis. Baltimore scored the game's first run in the fourth inning and broke open a tie game with its seven-run burst.
