Homers Can't Fix O's Pitching Woes

BALTIMORE -- Adam Jones homered on the night he wore Jackie Robinson's number, but not much else went right for the Orioles, as Toronto handed them an 11-3 loss Tuesday before 15,017 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

Jones got his first homer as an Oriole, a solo shot off Toronto starter Shawn Marcum (2-0) in the fifth that curved just inside the left-field foul pole. The center fielder walked twice more, reaching base three times overall.

Nick Markakis and Melvin Mora both added solo homers, but it wasn't nearly enough on a night that the Blue Jays handled Orioles starter Steve Trachsel and reliever Greg Aquino struggled again.

Trachsel (1-2) gave up five runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings, the big blow being Aaron Hill's three-run homer that sparked a four-run third and gave the Blue Jays an early 5-0 lead.

Aquino came on after that. He's had problems all season, entering the game with a 12.00 ERA in four appearances. The right-hander, who pitched three innings, gave up four runs on five hits, walking three and striking out just one. But Randor Bierd did much better in relief, throwing 2 1/3 scoreless innings after Aquino left.
